Chapter Five

Loki turned his head and looked at the woman next to him. Her lips were parted in sleep and still slightly swollen from their passionate lovemaking. He’d made her scream his name more than once in the last few hours, and each time he felt like he wanted to roar in pleasure to the universe that she was his. Vivienne made him believe he could be a better being, but could he finally leave his past behind him? Love had caused his demise once before, but Vivi was nothing like Madge.

“You are thinking so hard, it woke me up,” Vivi murmured. “So a penny for your thoughts.”

He looked over, and her eyes were still closed yet she had a smile on her face. His heart jumped in his chest. It was such a foreign feeling for him that he rubbed the area of his chest as if it were an actual pain, albeit a pleasurable one.

“Past deeds and sins that still haunt me,” Loki admitted.

Vivi locked fingers with his. “I’m not just here to warm your bed. Share the load; let me ease the burden in your heart as well.”

Loki swallowed thickly. Did he dare ruin what he found in Vivi? He didn’t think he could stand seeing disgust or loathing for him in her eyes, not now. Yet he knew it was time for the truth, to speak about something that marred his past and shaped the future he had now. He’d let it control his life and warp his mind. Was there any coming back from that? He didn’t know. But Vivi—if not anyone else—deserved to know about how he became the mischief-maker.

“My parents were giants and were lost in the wars of old. I was raised by Joko and Odin as one of their own, but I never felt like I fit in,” Loki said. “I resented Jack, Nick, and Thor for having parents while I had none. While Odin was a rambunctious bastard, Joko held us together. In the great halls, there were women, wine, and many wives. Yet, she took it all in stride and was a mother to us all. I acted out and I got punished like any other child would. I was four hundred when I met Madge—the frost queen whose beauty was as pristine as the snows of the northlands but a heart colder than the icy winds. She used my adoration with her and my obsession and lust to twist me into what she wanted. She told me that my parents were sacrificed by Odin in the wars and that fueled my rage. So while I loved her with a passion, in our bed I told her the secrets of Asgard and became a traitor, all for love.”

“What happened then?” Vivi brought his hand to her lips and kissed it gently. It gave him courage to continue his story

“I lived in the great house as she waged a thousand-year war, until my treachery was revealed and then Odin’s rage knew no mercy.
